While the Bible speaks of “one faith” (Eph. 4:5), it also tells of varying degrees of faith. Consider the following:
1. Little faith. “But He said to them, ‘Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?’ Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm” (Mt. 8:26).
2. Dead faith. “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also” (Jas. 2:26).
3. Great faith. “When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” (Mt. 8:10).
We also read about strong faith (Rom. 4:20), perfect faith (Jas. 2:22), active faith (Jas. 2:14-18; 21-23), etc. Of the numerous “faiths” mentioned, we must avoid the “little” and the “dead.”
Faith comes from hearing God’s word (Rom. 10:17). If we will feast regularly upon God’s holy writ and apply its teachings, our faith will be active, perfect, strong, - indeed great! What is your degree of faith?
